FAQ

What kind of classes do you offer?

At Sunshine Songs, we offer song-circle style classes. For those not familiar with this term, this means caregivers and babies will sit in a circle and sing a variety of songs (some familiar and some new) led by Ayanda, who facilitates the classes. Think of it as a singalong around a campfire - but for babies! Poetry, stories, and rhymes are also incorporated into our classes. If you consider yourself a musical person that’s great, but absolutely no musical experience is necessary for caregivers to effectively participate in classes. You can learn more on our “Classes” page.

What makes Sunshine Songs different from other children’s music programs?

Sunshine Songs stands out from the rest for a number of reasons. Ayanda, our instructor and facilitator, has over 15 years’ experience teaching music and has studied child development with a special focus on the role music plays in that development. Additionally, Ayanda builds community wherever she goes. This is why our class format features time for music-making but also social/community time for caregivers and their children to form lasting and meaningful connections. It's a great place for everyone to learn in a safe space AND make new friends!

Where and when do classes take place?

All Sunshine Songs classes take place at Morningside-High Park Church, located in Bloor West Village. Classes are on Tuesdays, with Sunbeams (ages 0-6 months) at 11:30 am and Sunrays (ages 6-12 months) at 12:30 pm.

What are the dates for each term?

Fall: October 31 – December 19

Winter: January 9 – February 27

Spring: March 5 – April 23

Summer: May 7 – June 25

What is the cost for one term?

The cost for one term is $245 and includes eight one-hour classes featuring both music programming and community time. For the Spring term, we are offering a 20% discount and the cost of the full term is $200!

Where do I go to register?

Please note that Sunshine Songs is currently on hiatus.

Should I sign up for a term or do drop in classes?

You should do whatever is best for your family! My professional recommendation is that signing up for a full term offers more consistency and continuity, but if term sign up isn't possible for you and your little one, drop in classes are a great option.

Is my child too old to register?

Any baby up to 14 months is welcome in our classes. Once your child is registered, they can continue with Sunshine Songs for the duration of the year, regardless of their age. As this is designed to be a year-long program, we want everyone to feel welcome and there is no "aging out" of our classes.

The term has already started but I'd still like to join. Is it too late?

Definitely not! As long as there are still spaces available, we are happy to offer registration at a prorated fee for whenever you'd like to begin. Send a quick email to sunshinesongstoronto@gmail.com to set that up right away!

What is your policy on missed classes?

Unfortunately, given the current structure of Sunshine Songs’ programming, at this time we are unable to offer make-up classes or refunds for missed classes.

Do you offer a sliding scale or assistance for those with financial hardship?

Yes! We are happy to offer a sliding scale for both term registration and drop in classes. Please email sunshinesongstoronto@gmail.com to set up an arrangement that will work for your family.

Do I need to bring anything to class?

As we will be sitting on the floor, you are welcome to bring a mat or blanket for you and your child to sit on. Additionally, you should bring a travel mug for tea during our community time. Nothing else is required to participate in our classes, but please bring anything your child needs to be comfortable!
