About

Sunshine Songs was created by Ayanda Dalamba (she/her), who was inspired by the unique connection music has brought her and her young daughter. Music has always been an important part of her life, but her experiences with her daughter, as well as countless years spent teaching music all over Toronto (and in New York), made Ayanda want to bring the same joy in music-making to caregivers and babies in her community.

Sunshine Songs is designed to provide babies and their caregivers with positive early musical experiences, as well as to build a community amongst families that is founded on empathy and inclusion. Sunshine Songs will not only help your child to have meaningful early musical learning, and help you gain confidence singing with your child at home, but will also provide both you and your child with access to a multi-faceted community right here in the West End. Ayanda is a certified Ontario teacher who has over 15 years’ experience working in TDSB schools as a music teacher, as well as conducting several children's choirs, and providing private music lessons as well. Ayanda is classically trained in voice and piano, and she pursued her initial higher education at the University of Toronto and OISE, where she received degrees in both music and education. After teaching professionally in Toronto for 10 years (and loving it!), Ayanda was driven to continue her studies in graduate school at the prestigious Columbia University in New York City, where she completed her Master's degree in Music and Music Education. While living in New York, Ayanda began teaching at a public school in Harlem, where she brought music to the school and its community for the first time. Following two life-changing years in New York, Ayanda returned to Toronto where she is thrilled to be teaching music to this day. Whether she's working with kindergarten classes in Harlem, or conducting 500+ high school children singing their hearts out at Roy Thompson Hall, Ayanda's goal remains the same: to build community through music and create a space where children feel safe, seen, and free to be themselves.
